Planned Giving through the Audubon Center of the North Woods Legacy Society
People want their lives to matter… to make a difference… for others to know they were here… and that they cared.Including ACNW in your estate creates a lasting gift, a legacy that will sustain in perpetuity your commitment to an organization whose mission is important to you. Your gift will show that you made a difference and can shape your legacy by taking this important step. When you become a member of the Audubon Center of the North Woods Legacy Society you ensure that your commitment to building environmental stewards becomes part of your personal legacy.
By becoming a Legacy Society member you provide for the environmental education of literally thousands of people of all ages about the many ways they can care for and protect the environment today and for future generations. Friends of ACNW will know you were here and that you cared. Your membership in the Society will help you fulfill your philanthropic goals while also providing tax benefits for you and your family. You will have the comfort of knowing you left this world a better place than you found it. That is true legacy.
- A residual bequest of the remainder of your estate or a percentage of the remainder to ACNW after you have made specific bequests
- Granting a defined percentage of your estate to ACNW
- A specific bequest to ACNW of an amount of money or an asset (must be paid before any distribution to heirs)
- A contingent bequest naming ACNW as the recipient in case another beneficiary does not survive you
You can designate gifts to ACNW from life insurance policies, stock trading accounts, checking and savings accounts, IRAs, 401(k) and 403(b) plans.
Charitable Gift Annuity: An irrevocable gift transaction where an individual transfers assets (normally cash) to ACNW in exchange for a tax benefit and a lifetime annuity. When the beneficiary dies, the annuity payments stop and ACNW retains the remaining funds. In a typical charitable gift annuity, the annuity payouts are not limited to the contributed assets, however, the actuarial calculations establishing payout amounts usually provide that a large residual amount should remain for ACNW after the beneficiary’s death. It can be based on one or two lives. Minimum gift is $5000.
Charitable Remainder Trust: An irrevocable trust funded with stock, real estate, or cash in exchange for a fixed or variable income for life, or for a term of up to 20 years, with the remaining trust assets at the end of the trust term passing to ACNW. Minimum gift is $50,000.
Gifts of a remainder interest in a personal residence or farm can be measured by the life of one or more individuals, by a fixed term of years, or by a combination of the two. They are, however, most frequently established to operate for the life or lives of the residents of the contributed property. Accordingly, they are frequently referred to as “life estate agreements.”
