                   Painted Turtle

Species:  Painted Turtle

Named for the coloring on the lower shell (plastron). The Painted Turtle is a common turtle of the Audubon Center, most often seen in the early summer when they are laying their eggs.

Fun Fact:

To deter predators the female Painted Turtle will dig one or more false nests before laying her eggs.
