Volunteer Work Weekend – June 2017
June 2, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - June 4, 2017 @ 1:00 pm
Volunteer Work Weekend
Ages 12 years and up only please (children must be accompanied by an adult/parent))
Includes two nights lodging in our Crosby Lodge and all meals.
Service projects you’ll be helping on may include weeding, invasive species removal, painting, beautification of Center grounds, fixing fences, general organizing, etc. Upon arrival, you’ll be able to choose from the list of various ‘chores’ and we’ll assign work crews and shifts.
There will be plenty of free time built into this Volunteer Weekend for you to enjoy hiking on our 7 miles of trails, get out on beautiful Grindstone Lake in a canoe, go swimming or fishing, or just sit back and soak up the nature here at the Center. On both evenings, weather permitting, there will be a group campfire.
The nitty gritty:
Arrive by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2 – there will be a brief welcome and orientation, as well as task assignments, then you are free to enjoy the evening and group campfire. (There will be no dinner Friday night, but we will have snacks available in the dining hall during the evening). Lodging will be in our Crosby Lodge – each room has bunkbeds and private bathrooms. Please bring your own sleeping bag/bedding, pillow and towels.
Saturday morning, June 3 – following breakfast at 8:00 a.m., work teams will head out for the morning’s tasks (9-noon), take break for lunch at noon, then regroup after lunch for another round of afternoon tasks (1-5). Evening free time with dinner served at 6:00 p.m. Evening campfire (weather permitting).
Sunday morning, June 4 – breakfast at 8:00 a.m., then enjoy the Center! This morning you’ll be free to enjoy hiking on our 7 miles of trails, go canoeing on beautiful Grindstone Lake, go swimming or fishing, try your hand at Archery, or just sit back and soak up the nature here at the Center. Lunch at noon then the weekend wraps up at 1:00 p.m. – but you are free to stay longer and enjoy the Center some more if desired.
Bring old clothes (or coverups) that you don’t mind getting dirty (or even paint splattered), including long pants and sturdy shoes (required) and water bottles, as well as appropriate clothing for outside weather conditions (work will go on rain or shine). We can supply work gloves or feel free to bring your own. Also, please bring your own sleeping bag/bedding, pillow and towels… if you’d like to use ours, let us know (there is a $10 per person fee for linens).
Space is limited!
